106 | An antiquity in the shape of a raised mound of earth and loose stones about 8ft. in height and 30ft. in diameter situated on the left bank of the Burn of Streather, and about 1/4 mile west of the farm of Straithie, further information or traditionary remarks cannot be gleaned concerning it. The object is believed to be the remains of an ancient burial mound, It is also supposed to have extended southwards some yards further than it now does, but the Burn of Streather which washes against its base is said to be carrying quantities of the earth away so frequently that it is expected to be entirely demolished in the course of a few years. At present a fine section of the mound is exposed to view (from the quantity of matter the stream has recently removed) in which the difference of strata between the original surface and the artificial accumulation is seen to advantage, |
