120 Scapa Flow is the name given to the wide extent of sea situated immediately south of the mainland of of Orkney, and dividing it from the islands of Burray, Hundal, South Ronaldshay, Flota, Farray and the N.E. of Walls parish in Hoy, It's greatest extent from N. to S. - i.e. from Scapa Bay to the northern entrance to the Sound of Hoxa, is about 8 miles, and from E. to W. about 10 miles,
"Scapa Flow is a Small inland sea enclosed by Mainland to the north east and north, Hoy westward to Flota & South Ronaldshay to the South and by Burra upon the South east Side. It has an area of 50 square miles". (North Sea Pilot)
