121 | Applies to the ruins of the old parish Church of Burray, which is situated at the east end of Burray, on the south side of Holm Sound, & about 1/2 mile south east from Bu', it is supposed to have been erected in the twelfth Century; a stone slab in north west gable bears the date 1172; it was dismantled A.D. 1802; & remained in a ruinous Condition till A.D. 1852 when it was restored & used as a place of worship till 1874 when the roof was taken from it & placed on the present Church which is situated near the centre of the Island. It is the property of the Earl of Zetland. |
