an excellent view of the Town, the surrounding country the bay and adjacent islands is obtained. Away in the distance are the South Isles- Burray, South Ronaldshay, Walls, Flotta, and Hoy with its steep mountains and towering precipices. Towards the north are the Rousay Hills, and Eigleshay in which, even at this distance can be descried the church where Magnus the Good was murdered. Nearer hand is Shapinshay and Gairsay once the island home of the famous Swein and his bold followers." Peace's Hand Book to the Orkney Islands.
