108 This was formerly the principal educational Establishment in Orkney, and was originally one of a class of schools which were established in Cathedral Towns on the revival of learning, for the teaching of the branches of education which were then common.The exact date of its foundation cannot be determined. It is, however, certain that it existed before the close of the fifteenth century. The youth of Orkney and the adjacent isles were here educated in grammar, philosophy, and Mathematics.
