001 A handsome structure at the south west end of the town, erected in 1832 by public subscription the ground being the gift of the late Captain Rose R.N. [Royal Navy], who besides several large donations during life, bequeathed his dwelling-house, & a considerable sum of money to the institution, the interest of which, & the school fees, constitute its support. The average attendance of Scholars throughout the year is about 80 & besides the usual branches of education, latin, Greek, French, and German are taught. Property of trustees
