001 A substantial monument of dressed stone in the form of an obelisk standing in front of the parish school at top of High Street & which bears the following inscription "1815. Erected by the Nairnshire Meeting of London/Scholars of the late Mr. John Straith 40 Years School Master in this town. Nat. 1732 Ob. 1807".

001 The parish school, at the junction of Cawdor Street & Maida Place with High Street; it is neither an elegant nor a commodious building, & is at present in a bad state of repair. The average attendance throughout the year of scholars is about 100 & the usual branches of education are taught, property of the Heritors of the parish.
