001 A bridge across the river Nairn about half a mile above its embouchure. It consists of three arches & was originally an excellent & substantial structure, but has sustained much damage since its erection in 1631 or 1632; first from the flood in 1782, the great flood of 1829, and recently from that on 1st February 1868, which considerably damaged the arch at the east end, & weakened the whole so much, that all traffic has since been suspended, except for foot passengers across it. It however has been carefully examined & measure are being taken for its restoration, but an agitation in favour of the erection of a new bridge prevails in the town at present. Joint property of the County & Burgh of Nairn.
