George Mackintosh Geddes W.A. Stables, Cawdor Mr McPherson, Torrich |
004 | On the summit of a natural eminence on the west-side and near the base of the "Hill of Urchany" a few stones are strewn about which tradition says belonged to an Ancient Castle called "Castle Finlay". In reply to his note in reference to this object, W. Mackintosh, Geddes, says:- "With regard to the vitrified Fort designated Castle Finlay or Fionlach, there is no tradition that I am aware of it, And the surmise is, that it was the site of a beacon fire in more or less ancient times". W. Stables, Cawdor, is the of the same opinion as Mr Mackintosh as to its being a vitrified Fort. |
