building was for a long period the residence of the Lairds of In[nes]
and is now that of James Duff Esq. by whom it has been rendered
one of the most elegant and commodious mansions in this country
and by whom also the grounds around it have been laid out
in excellent taste. The only other mansion-house in the parish
is that Leuchars, a more modern structure, and much smaller
than Innes House, but in thorough repair, and a most comfortable
residence for the gentleman who now occupies it at tenant.
The only village in the parish is Urquhart containing 160 inhabitants. ..................[written & described]
The nearest market town is Elgin which is 5 miles distant from the parish church.
The only place of worship in the parish is the parish church of which the .............[written & described]
situation is sufficiently convenient. The church is an old house, but in
good repair, and affords sufficient accommodation for the population.
The Manse an excellent house, was built in the year 1822 ...................................[written & described]
The parochial school is the only one in the parish at present. The school
master's salary is the Maximum. He has a comfortable dwelling house
and is paid the statutary allowance for a garden.

The following is taken from Forsythe's Survey of the Province of Moray A.D.1798

King David I in 1125 founded the priory of Urquhart in the ........[Shewn]
