007.12 This name applies to a considerable village in the above parish, within the parliamentary County of Elgin, so called from the circumstance of the Bishop's Mills having stood here. The Village is pleasantly situated on the north bank of the Lossie, of easy access with Elgin which is about half a mile distant, possesses several well planned Streets and a few elegant Villas surrounded ornamental pleasure grounds and Gardens.
The Union Poorhouse is the only public building in the village, excepting a school built a few years by the General Assembly of the Established Church
The Earl of Seafield is the sole proprietor of the Village.
