This building was erected in 1864 by the parishes of Elgin, St Andrews, Duffus, Drainie, Fochabers, Dallas, and Alves. it is a very extensive pile consisting of a central block and two wings, the central portion is occupied by the governors and Matron's apartments, Chapel, boys' and girls' rooms, dining hall & etc. Two small wings at each end are intended as wards for lunatic paupers. The whole is surrounded by a high stone-wall well built and of the same material as the buildings - which was taken from the quarries adjacent "Bishopmill Quarries" |
