018.10 Applied to a rising piece of ground stretching from Gibbet Cottage to the farm steading of
Smallburn; according to tradition a Gibbet had once been erected on the brae; but no trace is now to be found of where it stood; the brae is mostly covered with fir and is on the property of William Robertson Esqr Auchinroath.

018.10 On the 4th of February 1855 as Mr John McDonald was working on the Gibbet Brae, he found the remains of a human being buried about 2½ feet under ground, no cofin had been used, the body being built round about with stones. The grave was dug east, and west, On Dr [Doctor] Dawson of Rothes examining the bones he said they were the remains of a young man about twenty four years of age.
