022.15 | Supposed by the oldest Inhabitants to have been a primitive place of Worship and also a druidical circle of huge Standing Stones of which during the last 40 years only one Standing Stone is left, which is of the Whin Class. about 5 feet in height thus [see diagram] the others according to fragments left, were evidently granite. Another stone of a Similar hard texture and of a larger Size is laid upon the ground with Marks as if Lintels have been Sought out of it from the Standing Stone, Eastward, a vestige of the Site of the Stone Circle is Still visible on the ground, but defaced on the South as a portion of ground was reclaimed some 30 years ago. It is said that in former ages, a number of large Cairns were about the top their Sites it Seems are Still Known by the inhabitants, from those Cairns the hill had its name.It is now better known in its English; Around the Trig'l [Trigonometrical] Station is also known by a Modern Name "Bon-fire Hill" The Property of William Grant Esqr of Carron. |
