A deep pool on the north side of the turnpike road to Fochabers & on the west side of the Morayshire Railway. It is popularly believed that its waters rise and fall with the River Lossie. Tradition says it was in this pool where law and justice were anciently dispensed by virture of water; as late as 1560, the trial of a reputed witch took place in it & from this it is believed to have formally been called the Ordeal Pot, and that the common name as given on trace, is a corruption which has come to be almost generally applied to it. |

The Abbey which stands about the centre of this square is partly roofed and partly in ruins, the roofed portion comprises the Chapter house which is in the form of an Octagonal Cube the vaulted roof of which is supported by one pillar, together with the part shewn as the arched Kitchen. the latter is now used as a Free Church and seated for 250. The dormitory of the Monks was upon the second floor above the Chapter house and Kitchen. The part formerly used as a church which was in the form of a cross is now in ruins the Western Angle having altogether disappeared. the remaining walls appear to retain their original height and appearance and are in a good state of preservation.
"The Abbey was founded by King Alexander II. 1230, in honour of Saint Andrew, and disused about the year 1565. The Monks belonged to the Cistercian order"
