016.08 The remains of an ancient castle built by Sir Thomas Cumming of Altyre anno 1400 it was formerly the stronghold of the Cummings the ancestors of the present proprietors. It is situated in a plain at the foot of the hill of the Wangie on the north bank of the Doual Burn and is said to have been defended by a moat the vestiges of which are Still to be seen - the whole of which are inserted on trace only a small portion of the north west part of the Castle wall now remains and the side of a tower on the South east angle of the ancient building is still traceable
