The parish of Alves is in the Presbytery of Elgin, Synod of Moray. It is bounded on the
north by the parish of Duffus; on the north east by the parish of Spynie; on the east and south by the parish of Elgin; on the west by the parishes of Rafford and Kinloss; and on the north west by a small portion of the Moray Firth.
There are no detached portions of the parish of Alves, and there are no detached portions of any other parish situated within it. |

Is applied to a small stream which is formed by the drainage of the farms of Coltfield & Hempriggs. It flows in a northerly direction for about ¼ mile, then turns suddenly to the north west. In which direction it runs until it enters the Moray Firth at the fishing station called Bessie. It forms the Ph. [Parish] Boundary between Alves & Kinloss for about 160 links before entering the Firth. |

This castle is supposed to have been built in the reign of James the 2nd and was for
Centuries an heritage of a branch of the Dunbar family, it was completely demolished about 40 years ago and the stones were used in building the present farmsteading. No trace of this Castle now remains. |

was dug up a stone coffin, cut out of a solid stone. about 6 feet long and having the shape of the human form, inside It is now lying on the surface of the grave yard near the S.E.[South East] corner of the church, but is often shifted. When first found it contained human remains, The present Minister, who has been thirty years in the parish, cannot give the date when it was dug up. The church is seated to contain 555. |

Some years ago the stones from this cairn were used for repairing or metalling the turnpike road which passes near the spot, but sufficient rubbish and small stones remain to mark the exact spot. and to give a good idea of its size and extent, it appears to have been about 18 Yards in Diameter and of a corresponding height, it is Supposed to have been built in Commemoration of a battle fought between the Picts and Scots, and is called in the Charter of Burgie (Rune Pictorum" The Cairn of the Picts," in a charter dated 1567 it is called the "Cairn of Kilbuiack," but is now universally known as Moray's Cairn. |
