[Situation] Leading north from Canal Street. This name applies to the line of railway extending from the station at Princes Street to Granton Pier. This was untill within a few months ago called The Edinbr. [Edinburgh] Leith & Granton Railway but a union or [amalgamation] of the latter Railway Company & that of the Perth & Dundee Co [Company] has lately taKen place & an act of parliament was obtained & the name of this line was changed to the present one The loaded waggons are put on board a Steam boat at Granton Pier & then Conveyed across the Firth to Burnt Island & thereput on the Perth & Dundee Railway thus avoiding the trouble of unloading & reloading. The length of Railway belonging to the Joint Company is 85 miles. |
