An old irregularly built village situated on each side of the Water of Leith most of the houses are of an indifferent description generally two Storeys high & covered with tiles. On the west side of it is Sunbury Distillery. In it is 4 large flour mills with extensive granaries &, other buildings appertaining. These mills belong to the corporation of Bakers. There is also a Skinnery in the village. The is mostly tenanted by Quarrymen & labourers &c. |

It is enclosed in a building over which is erected an open temple, formed of ten columns supporting a dome, in which placed a statue of the goddess Hygeia. A handsome plain structure surmounted by a small square tower, erected in 1844 at a cost of about £1700. The interior is well fitted with galleries &c. sufficient to accommodate about 1000 persons with seats. The minister is the Revd [Reverend] Thomas Brown whose stipends is £130 from the Free Church sustentation Fund, besides a supplement from the congregation. In a lower story of the building underneath the body of the church is held the congregational school attended on an average by about 160 scholars. It is taught by a school master & schoolmistress. |

A large and handsome edifice of an oblong shape with a handsome portico in front of four Ionic Columns resting on an elevated basement & 35 feet in height. The building is surmount-ed by a dome 150 feet high which is a miniature representation of St. Pauls in London This build-ing is from a design by Mr. Robert Reid & cost £33,000 It was founded in 1811 & opened for public worship in 1814 It is capable of containing a congregation (with seats) of 1650 There are 33 seats [appriated] as free seats to the poor, It is a parish church & is a single charge. |

[feet] square, rises a dome with a lantern and cross. The interior is well fitted out with galleries seats &c. and is calculated to afford accommodation for 1,600 persons.
