A large and handsome built edifice erected in 1833 by a William Johnston from Straiton and was appropriated as a Bazaar up till 1843, when the Free church congregation of St. Stephen's purchased it and converted it in to a place of worship, Its interior is well lighted by 18 large Gothic windows and is well fitted out with galleries seats &c. Sufficiently for about 1200 sittings or upwards. The Minister is the Rev. [Reverend] Mr. Gillies, whose Stipends amounts to £130 from the Sustentation fund besides being supplemented by the congregation,
