[Situation] In a Southerly direction from Broughton Place.
This name applies to a Short Street leading S.E. [South East] from the east end of Broughton Place. In it are a few tolerably good houses from 3 to 5 storeys high. Some are occupied by WorK people but mostly respectable families.

[Situation] In Broughton Place.
A large rectangular building with a handsome portico in front of the Doric Order. The building except the front is quite plain with semicircular topped windows. underneath the body of the church is a lower story or sunK flat including rooms used as the church officers dwelling also a large room for meetings &c. The church is well fitted up with galleries &c. containing sittings for 1640. It was built in 1821. The congregation being then United Secession. The union of the Relief with this sect in 1847 caused the name "United Presbyterian". There are two ministers to this church viz. John Brown D.D. [Doctor of Divinity], and Revd [Reverend] Andrew Thomson. Each ministers stipend is £300 per annum which is collected from Seat rents. There are no seats appropriated as free to the poor but none are excluded who cannot pay. The congregation is about 1400. Cost of erecting the church is about £8000.
