A large plain stone building opened for public Worship in 1821 it was built & endowed by the late Col. [Colonel] Scott, Mount Lodge Portobello, it contains sittings for about 800 of a congregation. The Minister is the Revd [Reverend] John W. Fergusson A.M. [Master of Arts] whose stipends are variable & derived from seat rents, under the body of the Church (which occupies the upper story [storey] or part of the building) is a School in connection with the Church the average number of Scholars attendg [attending] it is about 70, it is a free School.
