A large and elegant structure built in 1824 at a cost of £14,000. It contains a large Public Hall and library and class rooms with ample play ground walled in: This Academy was founded by a number of Subscribers, the management is vested in a Board of Directors chosen from the body of Subscribers. The teachers are a Rector, 4 classical Masters and teachers of French, English Mathematics, Arithmetic and Writing the course of study extends to 6 or 7 years. The fees amount on an average of 7 years to £10. pupils enter at the Age of 9 or 10 years and are received at any period of the Session. The average number of pupils attending this Academy is about 400.
