002 | [Situation] S.E. [South East] of the Town of Leith. A large common or open space of ground bounded on the West by the Town of Leith on the east by Claremont Park and Vanburgh Place etc, it is intersected by roads and gravel walks, and used as play ground etc for the inhabitants of Leith. On it are 2 Forts one of which Called the Giants Brae, also about 20 years ago whilst removing some Furze of the N.W. [North West] side of it quantities of human bones were discovered As the Links is the property of the town, a considerable part of it is appropriated as a public Drying Green, with posts for suspending ropes on in the process of hanging Linen etc. This part is in the S.W. [South West] side of the Links |
