A School house the property of the DuKe of Buccleuch It was formerly a Dissenting Meeting house was purchased from that body by the DuKe of Buccleuch repaired by him And Converted to A School it is a large plain Stone Building in good repair, there is an appointed Schoolmaster & School Mrs [Mistress] to. each having a salary of about £50 per ann, [annum], besides Scholars fees Half this last sum goes into to a General fund to which an unlimited addition is made By the Dutchess of Buccleuch for purchasing Clothing for the Scholars, the branches taught are English Arithmetic Sewing Knitting &c, the average no. [number] of Scholars is about 180 - of Both Sexes
