A large and well constructed building on the NW [North West] side of High St formerly in the Gothic Style of Architecture but now thro [through] the repairs it has undergone it appears in the modern Style as at its east end is the old Chancel or Choir (in ruins) and from its appearance it seems to be of very Ancient Construction. It is said that Cromwell made a Stable of the Church at the time he demolished Buccleuch Castle It is also said to be one of the oldest churches in Scotland It has been disused for the last 3 or 4 years in consequence of it being in dilapidated state, at the NW [North West] side of the Chancel is the Vault or burying Place of the Buccleuch family The officiating minister is the Revd [Reverend] Mr Wright
