The inhabitants state the [these] are of Roman origin, but can give very little information regarding them, as far as I could learn the remains have been found by digging in or about them or if so, thought of so little Value they were quite forgotten or destroyed. 023 | The site of this Castle is now a part of a Cultivated field the remaining parts of the walls & foundation were removed about twenty years ago by Mr Blackie the present tenant, he took a very remarkable stone from it which bears an inscription and date all but obliterated and fixed it into his garden wall at Muirhouse, from his description it appears to have been no larger than a modern farm Ho. [House] but the walls thicker. |
