Parish of Heriot

Heriot Contd. [Continued]
There are no villages in the parish. The post office is at Fushie Bridge; about 7 miles distant. The parish Church situated on Heriot Water, was built in 1804.
The manor of Heriot belonged to the Morvilles, and next to the Lords of Galloway, and certainly was possessed by Roger De Quincey the Constable of Scotland. It subsequently came into the possession of Mark Ker, and of his heir, Robert, 2nd Earl of Lothian; and it is now distributed among seven proprietors, the chief among whom if the Earl of Stair, the patron. Heriot is in the presbytery of Dalkeith and Synod of Lothian and Tweeddale.
