022 On the West bank of the South Esk a few perches South of Moorfoot Farmhouse Stands a Ruin Said to be previous to the reformation a catholic place of worship but as to the date of its erection or by whom erected it cannot be ascertained There is a small portion of land adjoining said to be the burying ground attached There had been formerly a Village here Called Marthwait but all traces of it have long ago disappeared it is said that this was a distinct Parish at one time but since the Reformation it was joined to Clarkington and Temple and since that time the three combined form the Parish of Temple
