020 | [Situation] About 1 mile S.W. by S. [South West by South] of Cakemuir Castle A large hill on the farm of Cowbray on the summit of which is a Trigl. [Trigonometrical] Station. In the Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] this hill is Cowbrae Hill & from which it is said there is an extensive view and on its summit is an immense mass of rock of the same material as the neighbouring hills it is quite detached from the rocks considered to be a Druidical alter & there was some stone coffins found here. Note. The stone above noticed in the Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] was called in the country "The Fairies' Stone" & was removed some time ago. Note written by Captn. [Captain] James R.E.
