012 | A plain pyramidical three sided pillar, about 10 feet high, the sides are about 2 feet wide. It stands on rising ground about 30 chains S.S.W. [South South West] from the village of Auchindinny. Tradition says that the field on which the monument stands was a favourite spot of the lady to whose memory it is erected. The following inscription is on one of the sides In rembrance of Sophia Inglis. A disconsolate sister caused this to be cut upon a native stone at Auchindinny, where angel like she spent her infant days. Sophia Inglis, born 17th day of Feb 1740 Departed this life 21st day of April 1773 |
