012 A streamlet gathering upon Bavelaw and Logan House farms in the valley formed by the Pentlands and after meandering in south-easterly direction empties itself in the Esk near Old Wodhouselee. from its source until it runs into the Edinburgh Water Company's Reservoir it is called Logan Burn and for a short distance forms the boundary between the parishes of Glencross and Penicuik. it then takes the name of Glencross Burn until its junction with the Esk The scenes of Allan Ramsay's pastoral poem the "Gentle Shepherd" are disputed between the admirers of this stream and those of the River Esk
