Mr. Hardie, Mr. R, Palmer, Knox's County Map, Statistical Account Vol. 10 Page 125 |
011 | A farm house and outhouse all bad repair. Some of the out houses are in ruins. Mr. Hardie an intelligent person residing in Bavelaw Castle for the last 80 years states that it was traditionally handed down to him in his youth that this place was used as a Hunting Seat for the Stuart Family and was used by Royalty in that capacity in the times of Queen Mary and King James VI. "Still farther west on the north side of the hills is another building, called Bavelaw once applied to the same also by one of there Kings (of Scotland) which is still entire and was lately inhabited by the former proprietor Mr. Scott but is now the property of David Johnston of Laithrisk".
