It derives its name from a number of Graves having from time to time been discovered on it. Alexander Bishop of Livingstone when planting trees here near Sixty years ago discovered the first coffins of which I can obtain any account and from that time until about 8 years ago more were occasionally exhumed by the operations of Draining ploughing etc Mr Buchannan the occupier Says that the total number exhumed exceed 100 that they were usually composed of 7 or 8 Stones hammer dressed and arranged two on edge for each Side, one at each end and one or two laid on for the Lid. He is of opinion that the Stones for Some of them must have been brought from a distance and Says that in some of the Graves a portion of the bones were quite perfect and particularly mentions the small bones of the fingers, vertebral bones etc in others the Bodies from the abdomen downward had been burned and the ashes and See page 57 turn over
