The remains of a castle in g [good ?] preservation. The walls are about 20 feet in height, and of considerable strength, but t [the] roof is decayed. It is suppose [supposed] to have been fortified. The traditions respecting it, do not app [appear] well founded, its origin etc are therefore involved in obscurity There is a small farm house & offices adjoining, called "Muriston The property of the heirs of the l [late] Mr Kerr. "The remains of Several mansions which bear the mark of great antiquity are still to be seen in this parish, such as Cairns Castle Murieston Castle". Stat. Acct.
