006 A neat built church on the gothic style of Architecture surmounted with a castellated tower about 100 ft in height, erected A.D. 1815 on the site of the former building on a rising ground about 1 mile South of Edinburgh contigious to the village of that name: on the whole the exterior of the building together with its lofty situation presents an excellent appearance, but however the interior is not in keeping with the exterior for the galleries project too far with many other slight inconveniences which might be easily remedied by a little expense It contains about 1800 sittings all of which are free, and the communicants does not exceed 100 which scarcity however may be chiefly owing to the eruption in 1843 when Dr [Doctor] Begg their beloved pastor left the church. now occupied by the Rev. [Reverend] John Stewart, whose weekly congregation amounts to about 200.
