This name applies to a few detached houses situated about 1¼ miles south of Edinburgh they are very antique and has been a village of greater importance at some former period including detached portions it contains about 20 families, it is however of late much resorted to by families from Edinburgh who from its healthy situation have erected some handsome villas, which has much improved its aspect It contains two public houses in which ample accomodation may be had, also the Ph [Parish] School & the Ph [Parish] Church which is situated west. the residenters are mostly the proprietors. This name is sometimes more vulgarly called "Liberton Kirk" |
