006 | A large block of Whinstone in a Standing position on the Summit of Caiyside 10 ft [feet] high and 4ft [feet] in breadth and 1½ in thickness. and about 4 or 5ft [feet] below the ground in shape somewhat like this - [there is a line drawing of an irregular rectangular object] The Accounts that I can glean about this stone are various. It is supposed by the peasantry that a general name Kay or Caiy fell in some conflict here but at what period no account can be given. from a more intelligent Authority viz. the Rev [Reverend] Lewis Balfour Parish Minister. he thinks that it was placed there in memory of some general name "Camo or Camus" belonging to the Danes who were engaged in a severe conflict with the Saxons on this hill |
