A small river taking its rise on the confines of the County in the south, at Easter Colquim from the course of which for a short distance it attains the name of West Burn and continues a course due south for about two miles, from which it proceeds due east for several miles working on its passage a great number of manufactories, having arrived at Colinton Village it suddenly resumes its northern course for a short distance, and then gradually takes N [North] East winding its way through the flat grounds near Donaldsons Hospl [Hospital] passing through the village of the same name, and so on till its influe with the sea at Leith |
