006 [Situation] About 1 3/4 miles E. by S. [East by South] from Colinton Church.
A large block of whinstone Standing erect about 9 or 10 feet above the level of the surface on the Summit of Caiyside A tradition here among the Country people States that a battle was fought here & that a general named Kaiy or Caiy fell on the spot which was commemorated by erecting this stone at the place from the several accounts of it, It would that it was sometime called the Camus Stone and sometimes the Kel Stone & in Maitlands History of Edinburgh it is called the Catstean
