Part of this house is very ancient the date 1634 appears on the east side and some tradition in the neighbourhood asserts that it was a hunting residence of some of the Kings of Scotland. This tradition has been communicated by Mr. Dickson and Mr Rennie the one a gardener & the other a Steward at Inch they also state that it has been traditionally told that it was formerly surrounded with water. The dates 1617 & 1634 are cut in stone the first over the main door and the latter on one of the gables. - See quotation in Page 29 |
