CRAIG HOUSE (1565) Craighouse Craighouse Craighouse Craig House Mr Graham Mr Ballantine Mr McCallum Co. [County] Map 006 An old mansion house in the architectural style of the 16th century. It is built in the form of a cross and is three storeys high. The
original appearance of the building towards the north is somewhat changed owing to some modern alterations which it has undergone. At the rear of the building is a low strong door quite entire, and above it is emblazoned the armorial bearings of the family, with the date 1565 which is in all probability the date of its erection. It is the property of Col [Colonel] Gordon of Clunie Invernesshire

Mr Porteous resident here for many years state that Craighouse was built in 1565 by one
Lawrence Seiveright. Some years afterwards it fell into the hands of Lockhart of Craig Lockhart and latterly into the Gordon family of Cluney. There are many traditions respecting this house. One of the most note is that Lady Bruntsfield lived for 22 years in it without ever going out, it is reported that she occupied a small tower in South East corner of the house where she reared her youngest son who avenged his fathers death on Mowbray of Barnbougle.
