OS1/11/13/41 LENNOX TOWER Mr. Scott. Lymphoy Mr. R. Palmer Schoolmaster Currie 005 This tower is said to have been at one time the property of the Lennox family, and a place of great Strength: it is also said to have been an occasional residence of Queen Mary, and a favorite hunting place of her son and successor James 6th. It appears to have been surrounded by a moat, and there are still traces of a deep ditch. On the north side of the road leading from Currie to Lennox Tower and Malleny, were five large stones set perpendicularly in the ground, which along with a cairn a little to the South of this spot, tradition says were erected to commemorate some battle fought here. On removing the stones about 30 years ago, a number of stone coffins were discovered and which are still to be seen. They were discovered in 1820, and the proprietor Lieut[enant] General Scott of Malleny erected a stone, with a suitable inscription, in order to point out the spot and to facilitate the researches of the Curious into the nature of such interesting Relics of Antiquity.
