OLIVER'S MOUND | Oliver's Mound Oliver's Mound Oliver's Mound |
Revd [Reverend] Mr Beveridge Mr McNab Teacher Stat.Acct. [Statistical Account] 1845 |
[Situation] Adjacent to Inveresk Church An oblong earthen Mound Situated in the North West End of InveresK Church Yard, said to have been thrown up by Oliver Cromwell. This account of its origin has however been disproved, and from the fact of Roman remains having been found in it, it is all probably Roman. Various accounts prove it to have been in existence at the time of Hertfords expedition, prior to the days of the Protector. He may, however, have used it as a rampart to protect his artillery. |
