The offices attached to this man [mansion] [Curriehill] are erected on the site of "Currie Hill Castle" - Two small porti [portions] of the walls of the old castle st [still] exist and form a part of the w [wall] of the barn. Currie Hill Castle is said to h [have] been a place of considerable importance in the time of Quee [Queen] Mary. "Curriehill Castle was a place of note in the reign of Queen Mary. Crawford in his memoirs of that Princess mentions Six places in the neighbourhood of Edinburgh as being fortified three on each bank of the river; among which were Lennox Tower on the Queen's side and Curriehill Castle on the side of her opponents."
