Acct.[ Statistical Account] vol.10 p.68 005 In the western portion of the County of Edinburgh A parish which lies partly in the County of Edinburgh and partly in that of Linlithgow The river Almond joins the boundary between the two Counties through the whole extent of the parish; and the South eastern portion, lying in the County of Edinburgh is about one fourth of the whole. This parish is in the Presbytery of Linlithgow and the Synod of Lothian and Tweeddale. It was anciently called Temple Listow but the Kirktown ac-[?] giving the name of Kirkliston to distinguish it from several other places which were with some prefix the names of the whole manor Kirkliston came to be the parochial designation An entirely detached portion of the parish called Listowshiels and usually reckoned to belong to Kirknewton lies among the Pentland Hills.

OS1/11/12/4 Parish of Kirkliston [Continued] "The Hamlet of Old Liston, and about a fourth of the parish lie on the South east of the Amon in the County of Edinburgh". The village of Kirkliston which is situated the parish church is in the Co. [County] of Linlithgow as is also the village of Winchburgh. The only other village of note is Newbridge which is situated in the Co. [County] Edinburgh. The ancient name of the parish was Temple Liston. It is a Quoad Civilia parish of Old Standing. The River Almond although joining the County boundary is regarded as [--] boundary with reference to the parish of Kirkliston. There is no Quoad Sacre parish or district in the parish.

OS1/11/12/5 LIN'S GRAVE (1645) Lin's Grave Lin's Grave Lin's Grave George French Mr. Todd Alexander Hamilton 005 [Situation] Adjoining Lin's Mill. It is tradition in the locality that a Proprietor named Lin who died of the plague in 1645 gave rise to the name. The story further states, that no neighbour would assist to bury him and that his servant had to bury him in his garden where a Stone with a rude inscription Still points out his grave. The inscription is as follows "Here lies the dust of William Lin who died in the year of our Lord 1645"
