[Situation] At the N E. [North East] side of Lady Lawson's Wynd. This market is held on [each] Wednesday on an elevated portion of ground on the E. [East] side of Lady Lawson's Wynd. It is a large enclosed area well paved & clean a Considerable part of [it] is occupied as [pen folds providing] termed Sheep bughts in which the Sheep & Swine brought to market [are] confined. the open space being allotted to horned Cattle. Along the west side are a range of stables and sheds for keeping horses and Cattle which are occupied by the occupier of the Market Inn. Toll is charged for all beasts brought here for Sale. This market palce first opened in 1844. It is the property of town from which a considerable property is raised, |
