A large plain rectangular building with Grecian front It is a Quoad Sacra church but in some degree subordinate to St. Cuthberts The minister is the Revd D. Pittendrigh It is Capable of accommodating about 1100 of a Congregation with Seats. - The minister Revd [Reverend] John Pittendrigh Says that this church is in an unsettled state almost all the congregation having gone to the Free Church he also says he could not properly call it Quoad Sacra nor neither chapel of ease but would recommend calling it the former term |

Situation] About 26 chains SSE [South South East] of St Davids Church
A large building of the Gothic style with garden & ornamental ground attached. This hospital was founded by James Gillespie of Spylaw who by deed dated 1796 bequeathed a considerable part of his ample fortune to the endowment of an hospital for Old men & women and a free school for the instruction of 100 boys. The building of this hospital was commenced in 1800. The gross annual revenue is about £1500 The institution when full contains 50 inmates at present there are only 45 admitted The inmates at their admission must have attained the age of 55. The school is at the north end of Bruntsfiels Place. |
