002 | [Situation] A little North from Drummond Street This place lately was a small square in which were some well constructed houses used as lecture rooms in which lectures were delivered during the college sessions each year, in connection with the medical profession. In it is also the medical society's Hall. This square belongs now to the managers of the Royal Infirmary being lately purchased by them for the extension of the infirmary all the houses here referred to are now in progress of being demolished and a new building erected in their stead or part of the old buildings may be appropriated to the use of the infirmary except the medical Society's Hall which though purchased by the infirmary are still occupied by the medical society, as they have 5 years time to remove from it. This square is part of the ground formerly to the monastery of the Blackfriars which occupied part of the ground west side of this square. |
