[Situation] On N. [North] side of Infirmary Street A large structure of the plain Gothic style of architecture. This church was founded in 1647 by the private munificence of Dame Margaret Kerr Lady Yester and was built to supply the deficiency of church accomodation then felt in the city. The original building was taken down in 1803 and the present structure erected in the same place. It is capable of accomodating 1220 persons with seats. The college students have a gallery & seats rent free. This together with the ministers sessessions & bonds seats together with 22 seats belonging to the Marquiss of Tweedale amounts to 234 sittings. There are none appropriated as seats for the poor. |
